If you are reading this, chances are you have a child or teenager in need of counseling. Maybe you feel worn out by parenting challenges you never anticipated... or perhaps your precious child was exposed to hurts that you were not there to control. If you can relate, I am so glad you are here.
I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) and Registered Play Therapist (RPT) specializing with children and teens, as young as 2 years old, who have a history of complex trauma, attachment issues, and/or dissociative symptoms. This includes the "BIG" traumas that people often think of, like physical, sexual, or emotional abuse, severe neglect, adoption, accidents, losses, etc...but there are also little "t" traumas, like bullying or divorce, and attachment wounding from unmet needs during childhood, that can be just as impactful on a child's development.
You might notice your child experiencing intense meltdowns, aggression, shut downs, anxiety, depression, & more. These are just clues to a deeper root. I see everything through the lens of attachment and trauma, and I am a big believer in meeting the needs of the body, brain, and nervous system. With their brains still developing, kids can't fully process their experiences using words-- that's why I use play therapy! I also creatively adapt EMDR for children using toys & art. And I am so passionate about what I do. :)
I regularly teach 8-week parent groups to help you feel more confident connecting with your child, as well as setting healthy limits, boundaries and consequences. (If this is a frustration for you, you are not alone!) I lead workshops for ministry conferences, churches, and organizations, as well as guest-lecture at universities. In 2018 & 2019, I had the privilege of co-leading Camp Connect, a TBRI-based therapeutic camp in Orlando. I am a Christian, and my faith is the foundation of my life. That being said, I welcome clients of any faith or religious background. We are all on a journey, and I would be honored to join you on yours.
